Deighton Carnival 2022

Deighton Carnival 2022

Deighton Carnival celebrates its 21st anniversary with a live Festival at the Deighton Centre in Huddersfield on Saturday 25 June from noon until 7 pm.

And after two years of absence due to the pandemic organisers say it will be bigger and brighter than ever.

Deighton Carnival events coordinator Howard Belafonte said: "After two years of online carnivals, we are finally back on the Fields at the Deighton Centre.

"This year's theme is Deighton Celebrates - celebrating our 21st anniversary which is a milestone itself, celebrating coming out of lockdown, celebrating being able to have the carnival back on the fields again, celebrating the diversity of the area.

"Many new and exciting projects/activities are planned for this year’s carnival, including the Roots and Culture Arena, comprising of arts and crafts, different cultural music to suit all tastes in a relaxed atmosphere."

The carnival procession will again be vibrant and very colourful with many new groups taking part.

The carnival opening will take place at 1pm with the cutting of the ribbon to start the procession.

Bob Cryan Vice-Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield and someone who was born and bred in Deighton will have the honour of opening this year’s carnival.

The procession will make its way around the Ashbrow Ward arriving back at the centre at approximately 2pm, where the field activities will already be in full swing.

Howard added: "After the overwhelming success of the 2019 Carnival which attracted a turnout of well over 10,000 people during the day, another fun-packed family day out is planned.

"This year we will have the world-renowned, White Yardie hosting the stage show, and sharing his brand of humour with the carnival audience, this you cannot miss, an afternoon of fun and laughter, just what we all need.

"The traditional carnival activities again will be all be there, carnival procession, stage show, (showcasing local talent in the area), plus the sports activities, five-a-side football tournament, basketball, netball and table tennis.
